ROAD SAFETY ACTION INTERNATIONAL (RSAI) SIGNS MOU WITH TEXAS A&M TRANSPORTATION INSTITUTE (TTI) FOR PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION

Road Safety Action International (RSAI) is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for collaboration with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI), a leading research agency within the Texas A&M University System. This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone in RSAI's efforts to enhance road safety in our countries of operation, particularly in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia.

The collaboration seeks to leverage TTI’s extensive expertise in transportation research and RSAI’s deep understanding of local road safety challenges. Together, we aim to develop and implement vital transport and road safety improvement projects across Africa. Under the terms of the MOU, the partnership will focus on four key areas:

    i. National Road Safety Audit

Conduct comprehensive audits to identify and address critical road safety issues.

    ii. Sustainable Pedestrian Thoroughfare:

Develop and implement pedestrian-friendly infrastructure to ensure the safety of all road users.

iii. Road Accident Data Management System:

Establish a robust system for collecting, managing, and analyzing road accident data to inform safety strategies.

    iv. National Speed Management Study:

Investigate and implement effective speed management measures to reduce traffic-related fatalities and injuries.

This MOU underscores a shared commitment to advancing road safety through the exchange of knowledge, the application of best practices, and the implementation of innovative solutions. To strengthen this partnership, a special work exchange program has been initiated, allowing RSAI and TTI staff to participate in short-term exchanges on an annual basis. This partnership is designed to facilitate the transfer of skills and expertise, fostering a deeper cross-continental understanding of road safety issues.

Key Benefits of the Agreement Include:

    Research and Development:

Collaborative research initiatives will be launched to develop cutting-edge solutions to road safety challenges in the region. This includes both theoretical and applied research aimed at improving transportation safety infrastructure and policies.

    Project Implementation:

The partnership will ensure the effective implementation of the identified projects, utilizing both TTI’s technical knowledge and RSAI’s on-the-ground experience. This will involve rigorous project management and continuous evaluation to achieve measurable improvements in road safety.

    Knowledge and Capacity Development:

The MOU emphasizes capacity building, with both organizations committing to the continuous education and training of local professionals. This will enhance local expertise in road safety management and foster sustainable development within the host countries.

RSAI is proud to embark on this transformative journey with TTI. Together, we are dedicated to making a lasting impact on road safety in Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and beyond. Stay tuned for updates on our progress and upcoming initiatives under this promising collaboration.
